  • Who are Clinical Exercise Physiologists?
Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologists (RCEPs) are healthcare professionals who specialise in the use of exercise as a therapy to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases and conditions. They use their knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to develop individualised exercise programmes that help people improve their health and well-being. CEPs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centres, and private practices. They may also work in research settings or in the public health sector. The specific duties of a CEP vary depending on their setting and the needs of their patients. However, some common tasks include: Conducting physical assessments to determine the patient's fitness level and health risks Developing and prescribing exercise programmes Monitoring patient / client progress and adjusting the programme as needed Educating patients about the benefits of exercise and how to safely participate in it Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care To become an RCEP you need to earn a Bachelor's Degree in exercise science or a related field. You will need to complete a master's degree in exercise physiology or a related field. Finally, you will need to pass the RCEP exam administered by the American College of Sports Medicine.
